Straumann Implants

Imtec Mini Implants

What are Dental Implants?
A dental implant consists of a small titanium screw that is easily accepted by the body and its tissues. To firmly anchor the dental implant, it is inserted into the bone of the jaw, which will eventually allow for the formation of the bones around the implant structure.

The healing process can take as little as 6 weeks, if the condition is good; at which time a crown, bridge, or denture is then secured to the implant.

Implant Insertion
Due to some disadvantages in terms of function and appearances of the traditional methods of tooth replacement, dental implants are considered by many dentists as the preferred method of tooth replacement over crowns, bridges or dentures. A consultation can be made with your dentist to review the specific procedures or solution to your individual situation. Please call now at (780) 791-5538 to better your confidence and your smile!

Steps to the Placement of a Dental Implant
1. Planning
Careful planning is an essential first step that begins with a thorough examination of your individual oral situation. It consists of taking x-rays and fabricating a model of your teeth, in order to allow your dentist to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you.

2. Implant placement
The next stage is to insert the implant into the jawbone of the client, who is usually under local anaesthesia. Once the implant is in place, the healthy bones are left to form a strong bond with the implant for six weeks.

3. Replacement teeth
When the healing period is complete, the dental implant will provide a firm anchor for the attachment of your replacement tooth.

Caring for Your Dental Implants
Very much like natural teeth, implants require regular check-ups and meticulous oral hygiene. The success of dental implant treatment is dependent on maintaining your new teeth clear of food debris and plaque build-up. This can be accomplished through brushing when you can or at least rinsing your mouth after every meal or snack. This is done along with flossing once per day. It is important to ask your dentist about different home care cleaning devices, if it is difficult to access the dental implant or just for the purpose of an easier and more enjoyable cleaning. During your regular check-up appointments, your dentist will evaluate the success of your home care techniques to help ensure that you are doing the best you can to maintain the long-term function of your implants.
